Ernest "Ernie" Ellis, age 85, went home to be with the Lord on April 14, 2013. A resident of Hamilton for 60 years, he passed away at home with his children at his side. Born in Pineville, Kentucky on September 30, 1927, to Emmitt and Florence Ellis, he was the eleventh of twelve children. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict, 1950-1952. After coming to Hamilton he met and shortly thereafter married Phyllis (Parker) on July 10, 1954. They enjoyed a 50 year marriage together and raised four children. Ernie, a devout Christian, attended Wings Fellowship Church in Cincinnati for 31 years, Hamilton Christian Center for 15 years, and for the past 7 years, Immanuel Baptist Church in Hamilton. He enjoyed ministering to individuals, either in nursing homes, hospitals, private homes, or to those in need. He also enjoyed being a member of the Coke Otto Connection, a musical ministry group. Ernie retired from Voith Sulzer, Middletown in 1991. After retirement Ernie took great pleasure in playing golf with family and friends, attending his grandchildren’s football, baseball, soccer games and swimming events, vacationing in Florida, and spending quality time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He found great enjoyment in music, whether listening quietly to it, playing his guitar or singing. His trademark whistling will be missed.
Ernie is survived by his children, Rick (Kim) Ellis of Hamilton, Denise (Andrew) Ellis-Hubbard of Hamilton, and Mark Ellis of New York; grandchildren, Holly (nee Ellis) McCaleb, Heather (nee Ellis) Fischer, Hope Ellis, Timothy Ellis, Kevin Ellis, Tiffany Hubbard and Andrew Hubbard III; and great-grandchildren, Brittani, Coen, Connor, Chase, Taylor, Payton and Layla. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Ellis; son Del Ellis; parents; and eleven siblings. Ernie was blessed with many close and personal friends. He held everyone he knew very close in his heart. Kenny and Debbie Lipphardt, Denny Byrd, Paul and Debbie Schmidt and Verna McDulin to name a few. The family would like to thank Hospice of Southwestern Ohio for their compassionate care.
