Ernest E. Mackinnon, age 74 of Hamilton passed away at Ft. Hamilton Hospital on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 7:30 AM. He was born in Hamilton on September 26, 1937 the son of John and Shirley (Kilgore) Mackinnon. Ernest was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958, and was employed at the power plant for the City of Hamilton for 31 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of Amvets #1983, Monkey Mutual Aid Society, and Moose Lodge #36. Ernest enjoyed sports, was an avid Reds fan, and coached Little League and soccer. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. On July 9, 1966 in Hamilton, he married Frankie Harmon.
He is survived by his wife, Frankie Mackinnon of Hamilton; two sons, Thomas (Jane) Mackinnon of Hamilton and Doug (Elizabeth) Mackinnon of Cincinnati; three grandchildren, Kari Mackinnon, Kevin Miller, and Katie (Brandon) Quick; a great-grandson, Brady Quick; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, John Jr., Richard, and Thomas Ray Mackinnon.
Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson-Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Monday, February 20, 2012 at 12:00 noon with Fr. Jeff Bacon of Queen of Peace Catholic Church officiating. Burial will follow in Millville Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon. The family extends a special thank you to Ft. Hamilton Hospital and Golden Years Nursing Home for their care and support.
