Ersie Coombs

Ersie Coombs, age 75 of Hamilton passed away at Ft. Hamilton Hospice Unit on Sunday, September 16, 2007. She was born in Grey Hawk, Kentucky on July 30, 1932 the daughter of John Henry and Mona (Ramsey) Spivey. Ersie was formerly a beautician at Eunice’s Beauty Shop. A talented seamstress and cook, she enjoyed growing flowers, oil painting, and china painting, which she did part-time because raising her family and spending time with them took precedence in her life. Ersie attended Hamilton Christian Center. On June 30, 1956 in Liberty, Indiana she married John A. Coombs.

She is survived by her husband, John "Jack" Coombs of Hamilton; two sons, Michael (Lisa) Coombs of West Chester and Major John L. (Kellie) Coombs of Pasadena, California; a daughter, Karen (the late Tony) Curnutte of Raceland, Kentucky; eight grandchildren, Matthew T., David M., and Daniel A. Coombs, Lauren Curnutte, Lyndsay, John Adam, Emily, and Jesse Coombs; a sister, Elizabeth (the late Lloyd "Tom") Newton of Cleves; a brother, Wayne (Marcelene) Smith of Hamilton; several nieces and nephews; and many good friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Bernice Lynch; and four brothers, Frank and Lester Smith and Clifton and Robert Spivey.

Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Thursday, September 20, 2007 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Paul Marcum of Fellowship Christian Center officiating. Burial will follow in Somerville Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fellowship Christian Center, 32 North Seventh St., or to Vitas Hospice. Ersie’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Paula Weisenberger and the staffs of Vitas Hospice and the Gebhart Center for their care and concern.
