Ervin "Ernie" Nikolaus Lauer

February 14, 1916 — December 19, 2014

Ervin "Ernie" Nikolaus Lauer, age 98, of Hamilton, passed away on Fri., Dec. 19. He was born in Hamilton, Oh, on Feb. 14, 1916. He was the son of Nikolas and Magdalena (Bohr) Lauer. He was a lifelong member of St. Peters in Chain Catholic Church. In 1952, he married Lucille Thomas. She preceded him in death in 2002. Ernie served in the Navy during WWII. He was a Sea Bee in the Navy Construction Battalion in the Pacific Theater serving in Guadalcanal, New Guinea, and the Philippines. Ernie worked as a carpenter founding the Lauer Brothers Construction Co. with his brother, Albert. He then worked as a bricklayer along with his brothers Elmer and Nick. He was a member of the Ohio Bricklayers Union #18. He enjoyed working in his garden and walking his dogs. He is survived by his sister, Jean Pater of Hamilton, special nephews Nick (and Emmie) Lauer and Jerry Lauer who took care of him in recent years, and many other nieces and nephews. Also good friends Chelsey "Sonny" Spaulding and wife, Linda. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents, six sisters, Marie Bruck, Louise Tape, Elyse Lauer, Helen Hurd, Alma Alford, and Irene Digonno, and six brothers, William Lauer, Edward Lauer, Albert Lauer, Erich Lauer, Elmer Lauer, and Paul "Nick" Lauer.

A visitation for family and friends will be at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home 330 Pershing Ave. on Dec. 23 from 9:00 – 10:00. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Peters in Chains Church at 10:30. Burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Animal Adoption Shelter or Meals on Wheels.
