Fay Vyron Honchell, age 80 of Hamilton passed away at Sunrise of Hamilton on Thursday, November 22, 2007 at 1:05 AM. He was born in Hamilton on December 13, 1926 the son of Estill and Wilma (Crook) Honchell. Fay graduated from Bush High School, London, Kentucky 1943. After high school he entered the United States Naval Service in February, 1945 at Huntington, West Virginia; boot camp, Great Lakes Naval Training Station. Fay was Seaman Second Class, April, 1945, served in the South Pacific. Honorable Discharge from the service, May, 1946 at Treasure Island, San Francisco, California. After the service Fay graduated from Bowling Green State University with a major in Advanced Accounting in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He worked at Island Creek Coal Company in West Virginia for a few years, then came to Hamilton to work at General Electric of Norwood, Ohio. He decided office work was not for him, so he decided to become a builder and started his own business, F.V. Honchell Construction. Most of Fay’s homes were custom built. He did a couple of commercial buildings; the biggest one was the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce in Hamilton, Ohio. Fay built many, many houses in Hamilton, Fairfield, West Chester, and Cincinnati for 47 years. His latest project was the Woodland Manor Subdivision, consisting of 52 lots which he built on at least 37 of the lots. The balance of the lots were either built on by Honchell members or waiting to be built on. Fay took great pride in his work as a builder/contractor and was a very successful, well-respected and honest builder/businessman.
He is survived by "The Love of My Life," a long-time companion of 24 years, Lois Anne Jacobs of Hamilton, who many times was out working with Fay on many of his projects; one son, Michael Honchell of Hamilton, who also worked with his father; one daughter, Susanne (Eddie) Martin of Las Vegas, Nevada; three brothers, Colin (Phyllis) Honchell, James Honchell, both of London, Kentucky, and William (Gladys) Honchell of Hamilton; one sister, Dorothy Hampton of London, Kentucky; a sister-in-law, Sue Honchell of London, Kentucky; grandchildren, James Honchell of Cincinnati and Brandy, Sean, and Cory Perkins of Las Vegas, Nevada; and five great-grandchildren of Las Vegas, Nevada; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
