Fred Philpot, age 69 of New Miami passed away at his residence on Monday, December 31, 2007. He was born in Hamilton on July 24, 1938 the son of William E. and Ira (Gray) Philpot. Fred was employed in the blast furnace department of AK Steel for 29 years, retiring in 1994. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, yardwork, drawing, and sketching, and was an NRA member. On March 13, 1959 in Covington, Kentucky he married Judy Hubbard.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Philpot of New Miami; a son, Edward Philpot of Middletown; three daughters, Valerie Abner of Greenville, Ohio, Roshelle Marcum, and Delores (Butch) Minor, both of New Miami; 14 grandchildren, including Sarah Meadows, whom he helped raise; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Johnny Philpot of New Miami; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Fred R. "Boodles" Philpot Jr.; eight brothers, Thomas, Bill, Bob, Clarence, Henry, Jim, Delbert, and Albert Philpot; four sisters, Laura Mae Philpot, Betty Eversole, Florence McDaniel, and Barbara Shepherd; and a great-grandson, Isaiah Jones.
Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Friday, January 4, 2008 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Walt Philpot of Freedom Chapel officiating. Burial will follow in Hickory Flat Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or the charity of one’s choice. Fred’s family extends a special thank you to Drs. Kathleen Lang, George Manitsas, and Girish Nagesetty for their wonderful care. My beloved husband, I loved you yesterday, today, tomorrow and forever.
