Frederick F. Brower died August 4, 2025 at Hospice of Hamilton. Born March 30, 1928 in Dayton, Ohio, he was the oldest son of Frederick Lowe and Rebecca Francis Brower.
Fred graduated from Dayton Fairview High School in 1946. He earned a B.S. degree from Miami University where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. Upon graduation, he was commissioned in the United States Marine Corps where he served until separated with the rank of Captain. His decorations included the Purple Heart for wounds received in the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Brower was active for over 30 years in the real estate field in Butler County. The Rotary International motto “Service Above Self” guided him in many avenues of public service.
He was elected to Oxford City Council and served as a Trustee of Beta Theta Pi General Fraternity. He served on the boards of the Miami University Foundation, McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital, and The Maple Knolls Communities. His public service was recognized through awards for Oxford Citizen of the Years, Oxford Rotary Member of the Year, Miami University NROTC Alumnus of the Year, and Beta Theta Pi General Fraternity Distinguished Alumnus. He was a Deacon, Elder, and Trustee of the Oxford Presbyterian Church and participated in numerous other civic organizations.
Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Mary Jane (Hugh), daughters Elizabeth O’Beirne of Virginia, Becky Osborne (Steve) of Loveland, Susie Sadler (Steve) of Oxford, six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, brother Bill (Rosetta), sister-in-law Phyllis Brower, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Dan.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 22, 2025 at the Oxford Presbyterian Church, 101 N. Main Street.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oxford Presbyterian Church or McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital.
