Gary Palmatier

Gary L. Palmatier, age 79 of Fairfield, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. Gary was born in Warsaw, New York on May 27, 1945 to the late Gilbert Henry Palmatier and Cymbeline (Hodges) Sheppard. Gary attended the University of South Carolina where he studied chemical engineering before going to work for Norfolk Southern in Charleston, S.C. In his time with the railroad, he worked his way up from the yard to the office and eventually was promoted to the sales division. He was transferred many times before finding a home in Cincinnati where he met the love of his life, Mary. After retiring from the railroad, Gary enjoyed golfing and being out on the boat and camping with his family. Gary will be remembered as a dedicated husband, dad, and the best papaw ever.

Gary is survived by three children, Cindy (Tim Thackeray) Lunsford, Fred Steele, and Nancy Baker; his grandchildren, Todd Steele, Tracey Gregory, Quiller (Monica) Baker, Crystal (Derek) Bresnen, Lauren (Justin Halsey) Lunsford, and Leslie Lunsford; his great-grandchildren, Lacey (Darrell) Nafe, Alana Steele, Samantha (Guy) Goodpaster, Ellen (Brandon) Windhorst, David Rogers, Naomi & Shea Baker, Aubrey Mrusek, Serenity Jeffers, Hailie Weekley, Rylie, Hudson & Graci Halsey, Malachi, Malique, & Zadie Wenstrup, Paisley, Harper, & Jasper Bresnen, Breanna, Gabe, & Bella Thackeray; his great great-children, Jackson, Nora, & Emilia Nafe, Elliot & Bellamy Windhorst, Stetson Goodpaster; two brothers, Bruce (Sherry) Palmatier and Darrell Shepherd; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mary Palmatier; his son, William Steele; his sister, Deborah Hines; siblings-in-law, Bonnie (Betty) Sibert and Robert (Henrietta) Moberly; great-granddaughter, Roslyn Bresnen; son-in-law, Quiller Baker; and granddaughter-in-law, Deanne Steele.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 13, 2025 from 11:00 AM until the time of his Funeral Service at 1:00 PM at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 330 Pershing Ave., Hamilton, Ohio, with Rev. Dan Compston officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Sue for her compassion and care that enabled Gary to stay comfortably at home.
