Gene Adkins, age 69 of Okeana, passed away at Mercy Hospital Fairfield on Wednesday, February 5, 2025. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio on November 5, 1955 the son of Don and Irene (Nelson) Adkins. Gene was employed as a steel worker for Mac Steel in Sharonville for over thirty-four years. He enjoyed his retirement working as a Realtor for Coldwell Banker in Oxford. On September 13, 1975, in Hamilton, he married Lois Eads.
Gene is survived by his wife, Lois Adkins; three children, Robert Donald Adkins II, Rebecca Jean Crawford and son, Colton Crawford and her husband, Brent Crawford, Tammie Dianne Beckett and son, Andrew Beckett; sister, Fay Angel; dear cousin, Rick Price; and many dearly loved in-laws, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert and David Adkins.
Gene graduated from Lakota High School and stood out on the Wrestling & Football teams. He milked cows and baled hay during his high school years as well. Everyone loved Gene. Even with his large stature, his compassionate heart and quick wit made everyone feel right at ease. Whether he was working at his fence company, his rental properties or his beef cattle and chickens. He always included his family in his work, it was always a fun day to go with Dad. He loved camping and boating at Brookville with family and friends and was always ready to take a trip to the mountains. Gene gave his life to Jesus in 1979, and God became a priority for him and his family. He was very active in church softball leagues and taught Sunday school and Children’s Church for several years. He is enjoying the splendor of Heaven today with Jesus. Praise God!
In the last year of his life, his sister Fay was very instrumental in his healthcare and transportation; he depended on her greatly. His Daughter, Becky Jean, made his life a joy every day with her care and company. His grandsons were his greatest earthly treasures. He was at his happiest when he was with them.
