Gene S. Dunmyer, age 98 of Hamilton, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023. Gene was born in Hamilton, Ohio on September 1, 1924 to Frank Dunmyer and Emma (Spring) Dunmyer. He was educated in the Hamilton City School System and attended the Miami University. At the age of 17 he was inducted into the United States Army Air Corps, where he was stationed in England during World War II. He was the tail gunner on a B-17 Bomber, flying 25 missions over Europe. In later years he participated in the Honor Flight Program, being honored in Washington D.C. He received multiple medals throughout his time in the Air Corps, including the HQ 1st Air Division / 45, the Victory Medal, and the American Campaign Medal. Gene was always proud of his service to his country. Upon returning stateside, he worked as a sheet metal worker and installed the copper on the roof of the Billy Yank War Memorial. Gene left this occupation to begin working with the General Motors Corporation/ Fisher Body Plant as a payroll auditor. He served in this job for 38 years. After his return from the service, he met and married Betty House-Dunmyer, and they were happily married for 68 years. Together they enjoyed a wonderful marriage, traveled all over the world, and were blessed with a devoted daughter, Pamela Hendel. Gene will be remembered by all for his fun-loving spirit and his mischievous grin. Gene is survived by his daughter, Pamela (Rich) Hendel; grandson, Jared Hendel; devoted nephew, Ben (Linda) House; brother-in-law, William (Anna) House; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Betty Dunmyer; his sisters, Mildred, Catherine, and Alice; and a beloved grandson, Jason Gene Hendel. Funeral service will be held at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Ave, Hamilton, Ohio, on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Hamilton.
