George C. Cole

George C. Cole, age 77, of Hamilton passed away February 19, 2011 at Bayfront Medical Center, St. Petersburg, Florida. He was born in Mt. Healthy on March 16, 1933 the son of Lewis and Irene (White) Cole. George was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps in 1954 and was employed as a police detective for the City of Hamilton for over 28 years, retiring in 1985. He then was the owner/operator of Cole’s Garage for over ten years and for the past twelve years was a builder/contractor. George was a member of FOP #38 and loved spending winters in Florida. On December 16, 1977 in Hamilton he married Carlene Newman.

He is survived by his wife, Carlene Cole; three sons, Gary Cole, Randy (Kim) Cole, and Mark Cole; a daughter, Sandie (Paul) Osborn; the mother of his children, Judy Cole; a niece and nephew whom George considered his children, Melissa (Bill) Couch and Carl Newman; five grandchildren, Alyssa Cole, Denise Cole, Doug Cole, Brandie (Sam) Barden, and Hollie Bundy; two great-grandchildren, Serenity and Trinity Barden; great-niece LeaAnn Couch; three great-nephews, Spencer Cole, Jaymz Couch, Trevor Cole; two brothers, Don (Betty) Cole and Wayne (Diane) Cole; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Orville, Lee, Ken, and Ron Cole; and three sisters, Betty Campbell, Shirley Cole, and Mildred Frost.

FOP service by lodge #38 will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Monday, February 28, 2011 at 1:00 PM with funeral service immediately following with Rev. James Haynes officating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the Hamilton Police Department and to Don and Heather Cole for their care and support.
