George W. Crosby

George W. Crosby, age 81 of Hamilton passed away at University of Cincinnati Hospital on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 7:06 PM. He was born in Walterboro, South Carolina on September 10, 1927 the son of George Wesley and Hazel (Hiott) Crosby. George was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict from 1946 to 1952. He was employed as a supervisor at Fisher Body for 30 years, retiring in 1982. George was a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church, Washington Lodge #17 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Cincinnati, Royal Arch Masons Hamilton Chapter #21, Knights Templar Commandery #41, and a charter member of the High Twelve Club. He was an avid gardener who enjoyed his flowers. George was a very caring and compassionate man who was willing to help anyone needing assistance. On July 18, 1953 in Hamilton he married Beatrice A. Gentry.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice A. Crosby of Hamilton; two brothers, O.J. (Bobbie) Crosby of Round-O, South Carolina and John (Elaine) Crosby of Walterboro, South Carolina; three sisters, Inez Johns of Lodge, South Carolina, Ruby (Lionel) Bennett of Walterboro, South Carolina, and Ruth Nichols of Parkersburg, West Virginia; a brother-in-law, Donald Gentry of Hamilton; a sister-in-law, Faye Yeakle of Hamilton; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Heber and Virgil Crosby; and a sister, Sarah Jennings.

Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Barbara Dafler of Park Avenue United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Park Avenue United Methodist Church or to the charity of one’s choice.
