George M. Staarmann

September 26, 1927 — March 31, 2009

George M. Staarmann, age 81 of Hamilton passed away in his residence on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at 11:40 PM. He was born in Hamilton on September 26, 1927 the son of George T. and Agnes (Jung) Staarmann. George was a 1945 graduate of Hamilton Catholic High School and attended University of Cincinnati for two years, and was a veteran of World War II with the United States Navy from 1945 to 1947. He was an active life member of the Butler County Sportsmen’s Club, enjoying many friendships there; truly an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially forty years of family fishing and camping trips to Drummond Island, Michigan. As a keen woodworker, he designed and built many pieces of furniture. He was employed as a service technician for National Cash Register for thirty-nine years, retiring in 1989, and was a member of St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church. On October 6, 1951 in Hamilton he was married to Mary Joe Korb.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Joe "Joie" Staarmann of Hamilton; three sons, Joe (Lynn) Staarmann, Dan Staarmann, and Jim Staarman, all of Hamilton; two brothers, Vincent (Betty) Staarmann and Mark (Jeanette) Staarmann, both of Hamilton; two sisters, Mary Lou (Jack) Roberts of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and Patricia (John) Betz of Hamilton; two granddaughters, Brittany and Bethany; and also a number of loving nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Mary in 1962; his in-laws, George and Etta Korb; and a brother-in-law, Dick and his spouse Gerry Korb.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 10:00 AM with Fr. Tim Bunch, Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Friday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Sue, Joyce, and Lori, his caregivers from Hospice of Hamilton. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Hamilton or to St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church.
