Gerald Scott "Gerry" Hammond

Gerald Scott "Gerry" Hammond, age 71, of Hamilton passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2009, at 12:10 PM. He was born in Hamilton on May 25, 1938, the son of Kenneth and Kathryn (Rosencrans) Hammond.

Gerry was a 1960 Summa Cum Laude graduate of Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts + Architecture degree. He was a 1964 graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture. An associate of the Steed-Hammond-Paul architecture firm for more than 42 years, Gerry retired as President and CEO in 2009. He was an active member of professional and community organizations, including the Architects Society of Ohio, serving as president; the American Institute of Architects, serving as national vice-president; the Design Futures Council Board; the Hamilton Community Foundation; Hamilton Rotary Club; Hamilton Boys Club; Cincinnati Fine Arts Fund Board; the Butler County United Way and many others. Gerry was also a member of The Presbyterian Church of Hamilton, serving as an elder.

On June 25, 1960, he married Gerry Grimm. He is survived by his wife, Gerry Hammond, of Hamilton; three sons, Jeffrey (Kathy) Hammond of Geneva, Illinois, David (Alison) Hammond of Portland, Oregon, and Matthew (Kim Stocks) Hammond of Seattle, Washington; one daughter, Kristin (Matt Demarest) of Portland, Oregon; one brother, Richard (Joyce) Hammond of Atlanta, Georgia; and four grandchildren, Rachel, Benjamin, Nicolas, and Jared. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at The Presbyterian Church, 23 S. Front Street, Hamilton, on Saturday, August 15, 2009, at 10:00 AM with Dr. John H. H. Lewis, Senior Pastor, officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Hamilton Community Foundation, The Presbyterian Church, or Berkeley Square.
