Gilbert Allen

Gilbert Allen, age 80 of Overpeck passed away at Ft. Hamilton Hospital on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 4:12 PM. He was born in Clay County, Kentucky on November 1, 1930 the son of Elbert and Della (Murray) Allen. Gilbert was employed as a millwright for Mosler Safe Company for 37 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Oxford Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd degree Mason. On May 16, 1950 in Jackson County, Kentucky he married Loretta Parker.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta Allen of Overpeck; three children, Charles (Sylvia) Allen of Seven Mile, Sharon (Thomas) Anderson of Hamilton, and James (Kathy) Allen of Overpeck; eight brothers, Clyde (Myrtle) Allen, Alex (Mae) Allen, Foster (Donna) Allen, all of Hamilton, Jones (Darlene) Allen of Michigan, Colston (Cathy) Allen, Jessie (Josie) Allen, both of London, Kentucky, Johnnie (Carolyn) Allen of Hamilton, and Mitchell (Vicky) Allen of Portland, Oregon; four sisters, Sylvia (JD) Montgomery of McKee, Kentucky, Vivian (Jim) Sizemore, Mary Carpenter, and Pauline (Harold) Carpenter, all of Annville, Kentucky; eight grandchildren, Thomas (Tiffany) Anderson, Cara (Nathan) Ryver, Jessica (Nick) Bunger, Charles Allen, Michael Miley, Lewis Mills, Kelly Halcomb, and Alexander Sherlock; three great-grandchildren, Krystal, Tatum, and Max; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant daughters, Wanda Sue Allen and Barbara Marie Allen; and a sister, Blanche Hinkle.

Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Ron Stewart and Pastor Buddy Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Hickory Flat Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
