Gilbert Monroe Owens

Gilbert Monroe Owens "Poppy", age 80 of Shandon, passed away at his residence on Friday, August 14, 2015. He was born in Mt. Vernon on December 23, 1934 to Robert and Dora (Parrett) Owens. On December 4, 1954 he married Donna Wahl and together they enjoyed 60 years of marriage. Gilbert retired from the Hamilton City School District as an electrician. Gilbert was known as "Garden Gib". He also enjoyed fishing and working in his garden.

He is survived by his wife Donna J. Owens, children Gilbert Owens Jr. (Debbie),Debbie Burwinkel (Jerry),Tim Owens (Cari) and Tammy Weitzel (Brian); 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; brothers Jim Owens, Ray Owens, Leroy Owens, Donnie Owens and one sister Betty Sirk; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Bob Owens.

Funeral Service will be held at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at 11 AM with Rev. Paul Tillet officiating. Burial will follow at New London Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 from 10-11 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Morgan Township Fire Department.
