Gilbert Rose

Gilbert Rose, age 93 of Hamilton passed away at Tri-County Extended Care Center on Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 6:33 AM. He was born in Hamilton on July 26, 1916 the son of Brownie and Minnie (Sapp) Rose. Gilbert was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1945. He was employed as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in 1977. Gilbert loved baseball; he was founder and president of East Hamilton Little League and past president of East Hamilton Babe Ruth League. He was a member of Hamilton Church of God. On March 15, 1941 in Hamilton, he married Alma Wessels, and she preceded him in death in 2005.

He is survived by three sons, Gilbert G. Rose of Oxford, James B. (Anita) Rose of West Chester, and Gerald (Pamela) Rose of Fairfield; a daughter, Laureen (John) Rider of West Chester; a brother, Lawrence (Juanita) Rose of Hamilton; a sister, Dorothy (Luther) Horning of Hamilton; nine grandchildren; and fifteen great- grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Christy Rose Dennis; and a daughter-in-law, Wilma Rose.

Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 12:00 noon with Rev. John H. Spring officiating. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Christy Rose Dennis Scholarship Fund at any Fifth Third Bank branch.
