Gladys Herndon

Gladys Herndon passed away on February 16, 2014 at her residence at Berkeley Square in Hamilton, Ohio. Gladys was born in Annville, Kentucky on December 10, 1922 to parents Steven and Eliza (Carpenter) Baldwin. She attended Hamilton City Schools, graduating from Hamilton High in 1941. On July 3, 1942 she married Douglas Herndon in the city of Watertown, New York. Gladys was employed as a Judicial Assistant and Court Stenographer for many years. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and traveling. She and her husband, Doug, traveled extensively during their retirement. She was a gifted seamstress and enjoyed designing and sewing clothing. Gladys was the mother of two children, Leslie Herndon Spillane and Douglas Michael Herndon (Akemi) of Hamilton. She had five grandchildren, Shelley Spillane, of Hamilton, William Spillane (Shara) of Hamilton, Michael Herndon (Jennifer) of Fort Worth, Texas, Stephen Herndon (Chiharu) of Hamilton, and Joshua Herndon of Columbus, Ohio. Gladys had seven great grandchildren, Mario DiBenedetto Spillane, Cody Spillane, Sarah Herndon, Audrey Herndon, Noah Herndon, Rachel Herndon and Elizabeth Herndon. She also leaves behind her only niece, Rebecca Bonar of Hamilton. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Ruth Bonar; and brother in law, Richard Bonar. Visitation will be held 10am, until time of service (12noon), Wednesday, February, 19, 2014, at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Ave., Hamilton. Burial will be at Rose Hill Burial Park, Hamilton. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to Hospice of Cincinnati or other charity of your choice.
