Gorman Oakley

Gorman John Oakley, age 87 of Fairfield, passed away at Hospice of Hamilton on Tuesday, February 18, 2014. He was born in London, KY on June 9, 1926 to John and Beatrice (McDonald) Oakley. He was a United States Veteran serving in the Merchant Marines in WWII. Gorman worked at Fernald for 18 years, then started Hamilton Painting and Decorating Service that he owned and operated for many years. At the age of 76 he decided to take up the sport of golf. Gorman was an avid fan of University of Kentucky basketball. He was a devoted father and friend to many. Gorman was a long time member of the Fairfield Church of God and served the Lord with all of his heart.

He is survived by his children, Deborah Gay (William) Morris, Linda Carol (Denney) Fleenor, Anita Joy Oakley and Rebecca Susan (Phil) Montgomery; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Oscar (Theresa) Oakley, Donald Ray Oakley, Nancy (John) Rose and Genalga Rice; and special friend, Irene Walls and her loving family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Letta Oakley; son, Gary John Oakley; parents; and siblings, William Oakley and Opal Henderson. The family would like to give a special thank you to Gorman’s longtime friend and physician Dr. William Krall as well as the staffs of Mercy Hospital and Hospice of Hamilton.

Visitation will be 6-8pm, Monday, February 24, 2014, at the Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Ave., Hamilton. Funeral service will be 11am, Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at the Fairfield Church of God, 6001 Dixie Hwy., Fairfield, with Dr. William Morris and Pastor Darryl McCoy officiating. Burial will follow at Butler County Memorial Park. Memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Hamilton, 1010 Eaton Ave., Hamilton.
