Harold E. Handley

Harold E. Handley, age 78, of Millville passed away at Hospice of Hamilton on Friday March 13, 2009 at 4:50AM. He was born in Hamilton on November 12, 1930, the son of Harold and Dorothy (Brady) Handley. Harold served as a Staff-Sergeant in the U. S. Air Force from 1951 to 1954, stationed in London, England. Harold was employed as Vice-President of Sales for Pressco retiring in 1993. He served ten years on the Millville Council (1968-1978), and twenty-two years as Mayor of Millville(1978-2000) serving a total of thirty-two years, retiring in 2000 due to ill health. He received recognition from the House of Representatives of the 121st General Assembly for outstanding volunteer service to local government. He was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church where he was involved with the Holy Name Society and the Choir; a member of VFW Post #1069 and the Die Casting Engineers Association. On June 8 1961, he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Ohio Mechanical Institute. On December 27, 1952 at St. Ann Catholic Church, he married Peggy Lee Wainscott.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Peggy Handley; a daughter Patricia (LeRoy) Taylor, granddaughters; Shelby (Tremayne Brown) Taylor and Courtney (Josh) Bowlsby;great-grandsons; Joshua D. Bowlsby Jr. and Jayden Brown; brother-in-law, Jim (Janice) Wainscott and sister-in-law, Ruth Wainscott and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mary Susan Handley, two brothers, Raymond Handley and Robert Handley.

A Funeral Blessing will be held at Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Ave. on Tuesday, March 17th at 10:00 AM with Fr. Jeff Bacon officiating. Burial will follow in Millville Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 5 to 8 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Cincinnati or the Charity of your Choice.
