Hazel A. Joseph

Hazel A. Joseph, age 83 of Hamilton passed away at University of Cincinnati Hospital on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at 7:05 PM. She was born in Leslie County, Kentucky on April 3, 1928 the daughter of Elijah and Stella (Farmer) Hoskins. Hazel was employed by Baldwin-Lima Hamilton and Alber’s Supermarket. After her retirement from Alber’s Supermarket she began working at Mercy Hospital, where she retired in 1990. She was a Kentucky Colonel, had many friends, and was known as Queen of University Bluegrass in Middletown. Hazel was someone who was always willing to help anyone in need. On July 28, 1945 in Wooten, Kentucky she married Felix "Jack" Joseph, and he preceded her in death in 2002.

She is survived by three children, Betty Welch of Knoxville, Tennessee, Regina (Leroy) Arvin of Brookville, Indiana, and Alvin (Sharon) Joseph of Hamilton; a brother, Rex (June) Hoskins of Walkerton, Virginia; three sisters, Gladys Mattingly, Vivian Reinhardt, both of Peewee Valley, Kentucky, and Rosalie Hensley of Corbin, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Monica, Dennis, Leroy (Rebecca), Melissa, Nick (Aimy), and Jeremy (Krista); seven great-grandchildren, Angel, Jami, Misty, Garret, Kaylee, Lillian, and Saegan; ten great-great-grandchildren, Gaige, Shaelynn, Ben, McKenzie, Haylee, Ethen, Lexi, Noah, Zach, and J.T.; and a special thanks to her buddies, J.C. Burton and Lane Langdon. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Mona Layman and Dolly Melton; and four brothers, Harrell, Kenneth, McCellan, and Bobby Hoskins.

Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Valerie Trissell of God’s Temple officiating. Burial will follow in Millville Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 12:00 noon to 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Open Door Food Pantry, 800 South Front Street, Hamilton, 45011.
