Hershell D. Jones

Hershell D. Jones, age 83 of Hamilton, passed away at Kettering Hospital Hamilton on Saturday, January 25, 2025. Hershell was born in Scottsburg, Indiana on January 17, 1942, to Oscar Jones and Verna (Felts) Jones. He was in the United States Marine Corps from 1960-1969 as a Gunnery Sgt. On August 3, 1963, in Hamilton, he married Betty Calia. He worked at Beckett Paper company for 30 years. After Beckett Paper, he worked as a master carpenter for 15 years at Handyman Connection.  He was a member of the Hamilton Church of God for 45 years.  Hershell enjoyed fishing, canoeing, yearly trips to Canada, bike riding, and especially spending time with his family and friends. Hershell is survived by his loving wife, Betty Jones; his two daughters, Melody (Robert) Evans and April (Travis) York; his grandchildren, Caleb (Sami Ferrel) Wolf, Cassidy (Jacob) Brewer, Sabrina (Chase) Hinton, Laynie York, and Bryson York; two great grandchildren, Nova and Calaia; two sister in laws, Joyce Jones and Charlotte Lockhart; and many special nieces and nephews. Hershell was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Verna Jones; his grandparents Ernest and Ida Felts; his father and mother in law, Louis and Bessie Calia; his siblings, Burchell Jones, Dennis Jones, and Joyce Gabbard. Funeral service will be held at Hamilton Church of God, 1760 Millville Ave, Hamilton, Ohio, on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at 12:00 PM with Rev. Alan Weaver and Rev. Dave Garrett officiating. Burial will follow at Millville Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Hamilton Church of God. Memorial contributions can be made to Hamilton Church of God and any Veteran’s Organization.
