Howard L. Campbell, age 84 of Fairfield, passed away at Mercy Hospital on Friday, July 17, 2015. He was born in Fairfield on September 7, 1930 to William and Jessie (Nash) Campbell. He proudly served in the United States Army in the Korean War from 1951-1953. Howard was employed at B & O Railroad Co. for over 30 years as a Conductor. On November 17, 1954 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana he married Maxine Vidourek and together they enjoyed 48 years of marriage. He was a life long parishioner of St. Julie’s Catholic Church, Life Member of VFW Post 7670, Senior Citizens/Partners in Prime and Westover Retirement Community. Howard also enjoyed karoke at Pearl’s Diner every Tuesday night.
He is survived by his children Sheila(Gilbert) Groves, Debra (Bill) Knopp,Donna(Greg) Hacker,Christy VanWinkle,Yvonne Johnson,Howard(Kim) Campbell andCindy(Kim David) Hammons; grandchildren Leah (Greg) Bryan, Lynnette Cummins, Gregory Hacker Jr., David Lee (Rachel) Hammons, Nicholas (Brittany) Hammons, Stefanie (Abe) Lawson, Regan (Josh) Arguelles, Justin Campbell, Josh (Angela) Campbell, Jill Lynn Knuckles, Rashaunda (Shawn) Head, Rashel VanWinkle, Barry Warren, Jed (Kristen) Stotsenberg; 26 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; brothers Paul (Yvonne) Campbell, Joe (Marlyn) Campbell, Jessie (Sue) Campbell and sisters Themla (Wayne) Wilder and Charlotte Gray; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. He also leaves behind a very special companion Flo Songer and a special child neighbor Jon Baker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, granddaughters Bethany Hacker and Laura Gomez, son in law Rickey VanWinkle, brothers Charles, Enos, Kenneth, David, James, Johnny Ray, one sister Mildred.
Funeral service will be held at St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church, 224 Dayton St., on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at 10 AM with Rev. Michael Pucke officiating. Burial will follow at Butler County Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 from 4-8 PM at the funeral home. Condolences can be made at www.browndawsonflick.com.
