Sylvia “Imogene” (Willis) Bowling, age 93 of Oxford, passed away at The Knolls of Oxford Health Care Center on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 4:45 AM.
Imogene was born in Hamilton, Ohio on January 6, 1930 to Scott and Nannie (Wells) Willis. Imogene was employed in the office at Champion Papers for more than 35 years. In 1952, she married Wilburn “Quail” Bowling, who preceded her in death in 2021, after 69 years of marriage. Although Imogene never had any children of her own, she was a second mother to many nieces and nephews, who spent many vacations with her and Quail at their cabin in Dry Ridge, Kentucky, where they were taught to swim, ski, boat and fish. Imogene was a lifetime member of Hamilton Christian Center.
Imogene and Quail spent many years as snowbirds, traveling back and forth from Hamilton, Ohio to Winter Haven, Florida where they enjoyed fishing, boating, and hosting many fish fries. Imogene was famous for her butterscotch and chocolate pies, which she would whip up in minutes for any guests.
Imogene is survived by her sisters, Colleen McCarty, Yvonne Lesher, Mallie Pendergrass and Marlene Fisher; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Imogene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brother Wayne Willis.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, Hamilton, Ohio. Funeral service will immediately follow at 12:00 PM with Rev. Johnny Wade Sloan officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park.
The family would like to thank the Knolls staff along with Hospice of Cincinnati for their care for Imogene.
