Irene J. Brate

Irene J. Brate, age 84 of Hamilton passed away at Fort Hamilton Hospital on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at 1:25 PM. She was born in Harlan, Kentucky on December 3, 1926 the daughter of John and Flora (Burton) McWilliams. Irene was a 1945 graduate of Hamilton High School and a member of Grace United Methodist Church. On July 15, 1950 in Hamilton she married Philip F. Brate.

She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Philip F. Brate of Hamilton; three children, Susan (Donald) Arnold of Ohio County, Indiana, Michael Brate of Henderson, Nevada, and Steven (Jo-Ellen) of Fairfield; one brother, Charles McWilliams of Hamilton; three grandchildren, Robyn (Greg) Schlabach of Hamilton, Michael Bowen of Fairfield, and Angie (Brian) Shockley; and six great-grandchildren, Marissa, Andrea, Jayden, Ronny, Josephine, and Carson. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John McWilliams.

Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Fred Shaw of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held Friday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to Grace United Methodist Church, 1200 Main Street, Hamilton, 45013 or to the charity of donor’s choice.
