Jack V. Turner, age 77 of Okeana passed away at Heartland of Mt. Airy on Friday, May 15, 2009 at 11:30 PM. He was born in Clay County, Kentucky on February 21, 1932 the son of Clyde B. and Mallie (York) Turner. Jack was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1949 to 1956, where he received two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star with Valor, and the Korean Service Medal with six Bronze Stars with an Oak Leaf Cluster. He was employed as a roofer for Kelley & Carpenter Roofing and Sheet Metal for 30 years, retiring in 1985. Jack was a member of Millville Baptist Church and a former member of Amvets. On November 10, 1956 in Liberty, Indiana he married Wanda Isaacs.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Turner of Okeana; one son, Roger (Trish) Turner of Hamilton; two grandchildren, Emily Ann Turner and Ethan Wayne Turner; two brothers, Theron (Linda) Turner of Chicago, Illinois and Danny Turner of Connersville, Indiana; two sisters, Darlene Mobley of Brookville, Indiana and Barbara Jean Fouts of Hamilton; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Wilma Gabbard.
Funeral service will be held the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Monday, May 18, 2009 at 1:30 PM with Rev. Hobert Brandenburg and Dr. Richard Rhodus officiating. Burial will follow in Millville Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM.
