James H. Barker, age 86 of Hamilton passed away at Ft. Hamilton Hospice Unit on Monday, February 4, 2008 at 2:15 PM. He was born in Middletown on July 2, 1921 the son of James Floyd and Ida Mae (Montgomery) Barker. James was a veteran of World War II with the United States Army from 1943 to 1946. He was employed as a machine operator at Champion Paper Company for 36 years, retiring in 1983. James served as a union steward at Champion Paper Company and was a member of the Butler County CB Club, using the handle of "Old Timer." He was a life member of Trinity Family Fellowship. On June 28, 1947 in Cattlesburg, Kentucky he married Cordia Horton, who preceded him in death in 2001.
He is survived by his daughter, Ellen (Roger) Nipper of Hamilton; granddaughter, Marissa Nipper of Hamilton; two step-grandchildren, Allison and Noah Nipper; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Floyd Barker and Ida Mae Oxendine; two sons, Jimmy and Jamie Barker; and three sisters, Mary Ellen "Sis" Devine, Nannie Bell, and Ruth Davis.
Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 330 Pershing Avenue, on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Valerie Trissell of Trinity Family Fellowship officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
