James L. Inman, 80, of Hamilton, died Sunday, March 3, at Kettering Medical Center in Dayton. He was born July 8, 1938, in Camden, Ohio, to the late James S. and Goldie M. Inman.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Paul Inman, his brother, Conrad Inman, five nieces and nephews, Spence Inman (Lori), Todd Inman (Tara), Allison Inman, Aaron Paul (Jen) and Dara Paul (Patrick Hallene), and many dear friends and neighbors.
Jim attended Miami University, was a member of the Navy Reserve, and lived briefly in Santa Monica, California. He worked many years in data processing at Fisher Body and was a riverboat captain on the Ohio River. He lived to be in the great outdoors. Whether in the Boundary Waters, the Florida Keys or the springs of Ocala National Forest, he enjoyed diving, canoeing, bicycling, hiking, camping and fishing. He also loved his home wildlife -- feeding birds, watching deer, and telling stories in the breezeway.
Jim had a dry wit, a mischievous grin, and a unique way with words. He was often silly but equally sensitive, warm, and generous. He had an especially profound influence on his nieces and nephews.
Jim lived his life very well, right up to the end. Even at age 80, he would tell his hiking buddy (no doubt with a big grin) that they needed to get outside while they were still young .
Jim preferred not to have a funeral, but we’ll honor his memory every time we watch the birds, paddle a river, talk by a campfire, or help a neighbor.
