James M. "Jim" Smith, age 83, of Fairfield, passed away at Ft. Hamilton Hospital on Thursday, November 22, 2007 at 3:45 AM. He was born in Butler Co., Ohio on June 22, 1924 the son of Harmon and Edna (Graven) Smith. An Army veteran of WW II, he served in the liberation of the South Philippines. James was employed as a security guard captain at Lebanon Correctional Facility for 28 years retiring in 1988. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his devoted companion, Maxine Howard of Fairfield; his son, Robert (Mia) Smith of Whiteland, Indiana; three grandchildren, Alexander, Tracie, and Tiffany; a great-granddaughter, Chloe; and a brother, Neil (Leola) Smith of Oxford. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son Allen.
Funeral service will be held at Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Ave., on Monday, Nov. 26th at 11:00 AM with Rev. Timothy R. Swanson officiating. Burial will follow in Butler County Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 5071 Winton Rd., Fairfield, Ohio 45014.
