James C. Peck

June 22, 1926 — March 22, 2015

James Clyde Peck, 88, of Anderson, IN went to be with his Lord Sunday, March 22, 2015. He was born in Liberty, KY on June 22, 1926 to Ezra D. Peck and Stella (Foster) Peck. James grew up, attended school, and lived in Liberty until enlisting in the military. He is a veteran of WW II proudly serving his country two years in the U.S. Army, one of which included a tour of duty as part of the Asiatic Pacific Army of Occupation in Japan. He was honorably discharged and awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Army of Occupation Medal Japan.

After his discharge, Clyde, as his family called him, returned to his Kentucky home where he met his future bride, Loshie Allen. They were married on November 6, 1948 in Ludlow, KY and resided in Cincinnati, Ohio where he was employed at Bushman’s. In December of 1949 he left Bushman’s and began working at the General Motors Fisher Body Plant in Fairfield, OH. The Pecks moved to Hamilton, OH shortly thereafter. In August 1981, after 32 years of service, complications from an earlier hip/leg injury necessitated his retirement.

Known as Jim to his friends, he had many hobbies. He liked to whittle and often built birdhouses which he hung in his yard. He enjoyed nature and the out of doors and liked to work in his yard, tending his tomato plants and a small grape arbor as well as help his older brother in their large vegetable garden. One of his greatest pleasures was music and he enjoyed playing both the fiddle and the banjo, with the latter being his favorite. For many years after his wife’s retirement, they spent the winter in Florida, where he further honed his banjo skills. He shared his love of instruments and music with a group of friends that led to the formation of a small Bluegrass band.

Jim & Loshie loved spending time with their son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter and enjoyed every opportunity to take part in and support their interests. In September 2000, after more than 50 years as residents of Ohio, declining health necessitated their move to Anderson, IN to be near their son. They derived much pleasure in being near to their granddaughter, her husband and four great grandchildren who returned to minister in Anderson in 2008.

He is survived by his son, Daryl (and Mona) Peck; one granddaughter, Kimberly (and Kevin) Plew; four great- grandchildren Abby, Hannah, Kendall and Seth Plew, all of Anderson, IN; one sister, Lorraine Campbell of Harrodsburg, KY; a sister-in-law, Etta Peck of Oxford, IN and several beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 65 years, Loshie (Allen) Peck; a daughter, Connie Jane; and siblings Cecil Peck, Ruth Malone, and Marie Coffman.
