James "Jimmie" Smith

James "Jimmie" Smith, age 72 of Hamilton passed away at Hospice of Hamilton on Friday, January 14, 2011 at 11:40 AM. He was born in Hazard, Kentucky on June 4, 1938 the son of Ancil and Martha (Gray) Smith. Jimmie was employed with the Local 534 Laborer’s Union for 20 years, retiring in 1983. On May 20, 2000 in Hamilton he was married to Linda Smith.

He is survived by his wife Linda Smith of Hamilton; a son, Steven (Leslie Thomas) Smith of Hamilton; two daughters, Doris Mitchum and her life friend Paula Gifford of Danville, Kentucky and Roberta Garrett of Hamilton; a step-son, Michael (Lisa Smith) Smith Jr. of Hamilton; a step-daughter, Carla (Jeff Hammons) Smith of Hamilton; eight grandchildren, Chelsea Smith, Zachary Fulton, Jason (Amanda) Mitchum, Jennifer (Donnie) Conatser, Robert (Lindsay) Garrett, Denise Garrett, Michael Smith III, Derek Smith, and Jacob Hammons; six great-grandchildren, Gayge, Gregory, Zachary, Samantha, Oscar, and Taylor; two sisters, Louise (Tommy) Grubbs of Hamilton, and Jean (Clay) Mosley of London, Kentucky; his former spouse Joyce Carberry Allen and her husband Glenn of Erlanger, Kentucky; his mother-in-law Alene Rouse of Hamilton; a niece Charlene Collins and her husband Chester of Hamilton; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Roger Smith; three sisters, Betty Noble, Rosa Lovins, and Bernice Garrett; a grandson, Dennis Garrett; a son-in-law, Wilmer Mitchum; and a daughter-in-law, Michelle Smith.

Funeral Service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Darryl McCoy pastor of Fairfield Church of God officiating. Burial will follow in Hickory Flat Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Shwetal DeSai, Dr. George Manitsas, and Hospice of Hamilton for all their loving care and support.
