James A. Vogel

James A. Vogel, age 82 of Hamilton passed away at Hospice of Hamilton on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at 4:20 PM. He was born in Hamilton on April 16, 1930 the son of Alfred and Rose (Wimmer) Vogel. Jim was a 1949 graduate of Hamilton High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953. Jim was employed in the power plant at Champion Paper Company for 35 years, retiring in 1992. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church. When he was 14, he and his father were awarded the Carnegie Hero Medal for bravery when they rescued a neighbor who was being attacked by a bull. Jim loved being with family and friends, and sharing a laugh and a meal. He also loved to build things in his workshop. On July 21, 1956 at St. Peter n Chains Church he married Irene Ball.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Vogel of Hamilton; two children, Jim (Shawna) Vogel of West Chester and Susan (Kevin) Kelly of Fort Mitchell, Kentucky; a sister, Patricia McCartney of Hamilton; four grandchildren, Annie, Caroline, Gus and Mitch; his sister-in-law, Betty Jane Vogel of Hamilton; and several nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; a brother, John William "Bill" Vogel; and a sister, Catherine Dunphy.

Visitation will be held at the Brown-Dawson-Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Friday, November 30, 2012 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church, 382 Liberty Avenue, on Saturday at 10:00 AM with Fr. Ronald Haft, Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Hospice of Hamilton. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Paula Weisenberger and her staff for all their care and support.
