Janie Belle Mayes

Janie Belle Mayes age 84, Of Hamilton died on February 22, 2016 at Birchwood Care Center. She was born May 10, 1931 in Kenansville, Florida, the daughter of Chester (Rex) & Ealon Baker. On July 4, 1950 she married Wallace Mayes and he sadly preceded her in death on May 7, 2013. Janie loved to collect dolls and grow flowers. She was always the go to person for the care of flowers or any type of plant. She would often talk about her childhood on the family cattle ranch in central Florida. Stories of her cowboy uncles, her grandfather (which was always referred to as Papa), chewing sugar cane, eating swamp cabbage and going on cattle drives with her Mother to cook for the cattleman. With a heart of gold, she will be sadly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wallace; son, Terry; great-grandson, Terry; brother, Chester; sister, Nellie. She is survived by 3 sons; Steve (Kathy), Tom (Laura), Alan (Mary); 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers and 2 sisters. The family would like to express their gratitude to Teresa, everyone at Birchwood and Hospice of Southwest Ohio for the quality of care Janie received.

Private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
