Jerry Combs, age 67 of West Elkton passed away at his residence on Wednesday, November 24, 2010. He was born in Corbin, Kentucky on November 22, 1943 the son of William Matthew and Mary Ellen (Burchett) Combs. Jerry retired from Ford Motor Company in Sharonville. He served for many years as a police officer in several localities, retiring as police chief from West Elkton. Jerry was an avid hunter and gun enthusiast, and was owner of Jerry’s Guns and Gear. He was a member of the NRA, Middletown Sportsmen’s Club, Poasttown First Church of God, and a lifetime member of the North American Hunting Club. On May 23, 1980 he married the love of his life, Betty Scyphers.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Combs of West Elkton; three daughters, Michelle (Aaron) Edwards of Mansfield, Jennifer Melton of Gratis, and Traci (Chris) Stivers of Carlisle; three grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Kyle, Maddie, and Taylor; and his canine companion, Mick. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Kallie Louise Collins; and a brother, Cecil "Eddie" Combs.
Funeral service will be held at the Poasttown First Church of God, 6376 Germantown Road, Middletown, Ohio 45042 on Monday, November 29, 2010 at 12:00 noon with Pastor Kenny Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmound Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gratis Life Squad.
