John E. Fawns, age 85 of Hamilton passed away in Fort Hamilton Hospital on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 11AM. He was born in Salt Lick, Kentucky on May 11, 1921, the son of James and Bertha (Breder) Fawns. John was a member of St. Peter In Chains Catholic Church, where he worked bingo for twenty-nine years; a member of the K of C #968; the American Legion Post #138; 411th AAA Battalion Association and was a veteran with the United States Army in World War II and Korean War from 1942 to 1953. He was employed as a machine operator for Wardlow-Thomas Paper Company for four years; a rigger for Aronica Corporation for one year; a drum operator for Champion International for nine years; a heavy equipment operator for Scherzinger for two years and then became the founder of Fawns Appliance Service Incorporated for forty-five years retiring in 1991. On January 29, 1947, in Hamilton, he was married to Elaine Lubbers, and she preceded him in death in 2003.
He is survived by one son, Michael (Patricia) Fawns of Hamilton; one daughter, Adele Fawns of Hamilton; one brother, James Fawns of Hartford City, Indiana; four grandchildren, Evan, Emily (Jason) Collins, Stephen and Jennifer. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Gregory Fawns in 1988; one brother, Charles and one sister, Ethel Schaferling.
Prayers will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Ave. on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 10:30AM followed by Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter In Chains Catholic Church at 11AM with Father Tim Bunch, Celebrant. Entombment will be in St. Stephen’s Mausoleum. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 9AM to 10:30AM. Family requests memorials to Badin High School Scholarship Fund or to the Diabetes Association, ADA or JDRF.
