John "Jay" Jones

John M. "Jay" Jones, age 78 of Fairfield, passed away at Christ Hospital on Thursday, May 23, 2013. He was born in Hamilton on May 8, 1935 to John and Lucy (Young) Jones. Jay was a 1953 graduate of Hamilton High School and a 1959 graduate of The University of Cincinnati Pharmacy College. Jay was employed as a Pharmacist for 35 years, retiring from Kroger Pharmacy, where he was the first pharmacist recipient of the Humanitarian Award for Volunteerism. Jay was a past president of the Butler County Pharmaceutical Association, serving on many committees, state and local. Jay’s main focus was volunteering for youth for the community. He helped out many organizations including Lindenwald Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball, by coaching and umpiring, he was a director for the Lindenwald Kiwanis Basketball League for over 20 years, serving as Director and being a referee. Also, he was very active in the Fairfield Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball. Jay donated tissue to help save the lives of others.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carol Jones, and daughter, Johanna Jones, his beloved namesake. Jay was a very loving father, attending his daughters school functiuons, by chaperoning, class events, and running the "Bank of Dad", when allowances were short or more money was needed for that new dress, that door was open for business. They were Bengal buddies, attending all home games, including the Freezer Bowl, and only recently, had to curtail events due to Jay’s health condition.

Jay is also survived by one brother William Howard Jones, close relatives, Nancy and Michael Schwab, Connie and Jim Smith, Gary and Jane Ruhl, Kenny Ruhl, David and Heather Schwab,Geoffery Ruhl, Kevin and Jennifer Ruhl,and Adam and Megan Ruhl.Special lifetime friends Bill Davis, his Friday McDonalds buddy and Ron Roberts. . He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father in law Donald and Viola Zellner, and three brothers, Thomas and Henry Jones and Bertman Collett. Jay leaves his special four legged friend Rudy, who will miss him greatly.

Funeral service will be held at Brown-Dawson-Flick Funeral Home, 330 Pershing Avenue, on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 12 Noon with Pastor Jack Young officiating. A Masonic Service will also begin at 12 Noon. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 11 AM until 12 Noon at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to The YMCA Sponsor Youth Program, Hamilton, Ohio.
