Johnnie P. Swick Sr., age 88 of Hamilton passed away in Ft. Hamilton Hospital on Friday, August 22, 2008 at 9:50 AM. He was born in Cortland, Ohio on June 5, 1920 the son of William and Mildred (Shaw) Swick. He was raised in Litchfield, Arizona and was a 1938 graduate of Litchfield High School, an avid outdoorsman, enjoying camping, hunting, fishing, traveling, and was a metal and wood craftsman. Johnnie was a veteran of World War II with the United States Army from 1941 to 1945, attaining the rank of Sergeant and serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater; he served for thirty years in the USAFR, retiring as a Master Sergeant and was a life member of the VFW Post #7670. He was employed as a millwright for General Motors Norwood for twenty-three years, retiring in 1982. On June 24, 1945 in Martenis, California he was married to Mary Simpson.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Swick of Hamilton; one son, John (Joyce) Swick of Hamilton; one brother, George (Jane) Swick of Mesa, Arizona; three grandchildren, Patrick (Lori) Swick of Willow Creek, Montana, Phillip Swick of Eaton, Ohio, and Jennifer (David) Henley of Hamilton; and two great-grandchildren, Phillip Swick Jr. and Zachary Henley. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jacob Flannery officiating. Burial will be in Hickory Flat Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
