Joseph E. Thier

Joseph E. Thier, age 85 of Hamilton passed away at his home on Monday, August 22, 2011. He was born in Middletown , Ohio on February 9, 1926 the son of Charles and Katherine (Bordak) Thier. Joseph was a veteran of WWII with the United States Army Air Corp from 1944 to 1946. He retired after over 30 years of service as Deputy Administrator of Ohio Bureau of Workman’s Compensation. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Lodge #968. Joseph enjoyed golf and was very proud of his hole in one.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marcella (Holstein) Thier; children, Joe (Uschi) Thier of Arizona, Mike Thier of Oregon, Rick (Pat) Thier of Illinois, Tom Thier of Hamilton and Jeff Thier of Hamilton; daughter in law, Penny Thier of Cincinnati; grandchildren, Jimmy, Jacob, Elena, Tyler and Mason Thier. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Edward Thier; and 5 siblings.

Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 11:00 AM with Fr. Jim Elsbernd celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Stephen’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM also at the church. The family would like to give special thanks to Vitas Hospice, Dr. Timothy Brown, Fr. Jim Elsbernd and Fr. Jeff Bacon.
