Joy Johnson

Joy Johnson, age 76 of Hamilton passed away at Ft. Hamilton Hospital on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at 12:16 AM. She was born in Henderson County, North Carolina on February 17, 1931 the daughter of J. Oscar and Carrie (Wood) Mullenax. Joy was employed as a cook for various restaurants as well as the Hamilton City School District, retiring in 1995 after twenty years. She was a member of Gordon Avenue Baptist Church and the local Order of the Eastern Star. On May 23, 1960 in Williamstown, Kentucky she married Gerald Johnson.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald Johnson of Hamilton; three children, Tony (Pamela) Johnson, Theresa Johnson, and Anthony Johnson, all of Hamilton; three grandchildren, Alice (Tony) Binegar, Scott (Monica) Meyer, and Tim (Amy) Meyer; ten great-grandchildren, Joshua, Justin, Shawn, Ashley, Maranda, Harley, Hannah, Traci, Sammy, and Morgan; two brothers, Vernon Mullenax of Hamilton and William Mullenax of North Carolina; a sister, Georgia Carter of North Carolina; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Geneva Pipes, Margaret Lakefield, and Winiford Hunter.

Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Elby Harrison of Harvest Christian Fellowship officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
