Juanita Mae Young, age 96, of Hamilton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, in the loving care of hospice at StoryPoint West Chester. She was born on August 31, 1929, in Hamilton, Ohio, the daughter of the late Arthur and Dorothy Ruhe Guy.
It is likely no coincidence that she chose to leave us on the birthday of her daughter Cynthia, who had gone before her — as though the pull of those lost too soon was finally too strong to resist.
On December 23, 1987, Juanita married Stillman “Bud” Young, and the two shared over 32 years together — bickering in the way that only a truly loving couple does. A woman of remarkable strength and resilience, Juanita built a life defined by hard work and devotion to her family. She enjoyed a career at Pillsbury and later retired from General Motors, both in Hamilton — a testament to her steadfast work ethic.
In her heart, nothing compared to the joy of being surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her strength was quiet but undeniable, and those who loved her knew it well.
Juanita was preceded in death by her children, Cynthia Wertz and Gary Reist; her husband, Stillman “Bud” Young; her sister, Mary Cook; and her great-grandchild, Wyatt Duckworth.
She is lovingly survived by her grandchildren, Jennifer (Joe) Sackenheim, Christine (Herminio) Carrasquillo, Stephanie (Heidi) Jorgensen, Tyler Wertz, Julie (Chris) Hobbs, and Patrick (Kristin) Reist; her stepchildren, Ed (Roy Yoshimatsu) Young and Kathy (Steve) Duckworth; her son-in-law, Rick Wertz; her daughter-in-law, Kathy Booher; her step-grandchildren, Joe Duckworth, Aaron (Stacey) Duckworth; and 16 beloved great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the exceptional nursing staff and caregivers at StoryPoint West Chester and Queen City Hospice, who lovingly tended to Juanita’s needs and truly treated her as one of their own.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 13, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with funeral service starting at 11:00 AM at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, Hamilton, Ohio 45013. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
