Kathryn I. Smith

Kathryn I. Smith, age 82 of Hamilton, OH, passed away at McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital on Sunday, January 26, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Kathy was born on May 25, 1942 to William C. Ignatius and Dorothy (Kiefel) Ignatius in Cincinnati, OH. Kathy was a 1960 graduate of Talawanda High School. On April 8, 1961, she married the love of her life, Jay Andrew Smith, who preceded her in death on April 29, 2017. Kathy worked in King Library at Miami University for many years, retiring in 2000. An avid dog lover, Kathy was a long-time member of the Hamilton Dog Training Club. She enjoyed attending and participating in many dog shows and became an instructor for the club. She loved baking cookies and brownies, the Cincinnati Reds, and working all kinds of puzzles, especially Sudoku. Kathy is survived by her children, Julie (Jon) Schlichter, Craig (Becky) Smith, and Doug (Lynn) Smith; her grandchildren, Heidi (Zakery) Condo, Hannah (Tyler) Metzger, Abby Smith, Andrew (Tori) Schlichter, Mackenzie and Tyler Vizedom; two great grandchildren and another on the way. She is also survived by a sister, Sharon Page, of Gladstone, Oregon; and a brother, William C. (Bucky) Ignatius III of Cincinnati, Ohio. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jay; and a sister, Mary Ann Ignatius. Memorial service will be held at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Ave., Hamilton, Ohio, on Friday, February 7, 2025, at 12:00 PM with Tyler Schuppie officiating. Burial of cremains will follow at Millville Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Hamilton Dog Training Club, 2720 Symmes Road, Fairfield, OH 45014.
