Kenneth Woodson Davenport, age 92, passed away at his home surrounded by family Monday, March 6th, 2023. Known to most as Ken, he was born in Baughman, Kentucky on July 24th, 1930 the son of John Henry and Nancy (Fields) Davenport. On June 6th, 1954 he married Florine (Corey) Davenport and enjoyed 44 wonderful years of marriage before her homegoing in 1997. Together they raised four children, Jonathan, Kenneth “David”, Caleb, and Naomi. On May 12th, 1999 he married Charlene (Strack) Davenport, gaining 3 additional children, Vicky, Floyd “Jr.,” and Michael. They enjoyed 22 loving years of marriage before her homegoing in 2021. He served in the Korean war as part of the United States Army. After leaving the military and marrying Florine he began working at Champion Paper Mill where he would spend his career and retire in 1993. There was nothing Ken enjoyed more than preaching the gospel. He spent his life sharing the word and love of God, even in his final days. He took pleasure in traveling and boasted often about stopping at a Cracker Barrel in every state they traveled through with his late wife Charlene –all except California. That fact alone made California a godless place. He also enjoyed playing Pinochle and checkers with his family, being sure that even the youngest members were prepared for a well-fought battle. Kenneth’s love, wit, and wisdom has changed us all.
He is reunited with his loving wives, Florine and Charlene. His Parents, John Henry and Nancy. His sons Jonathan and Kenneth “David” Davenport. His grandson, Matthew David Davenport. And His siblings, Estle, Opal “Genara,” Daniel “Boone”, Edith (Pauline), Wilburn, Hobart, and John “Donaldson.”
Kenneth’s legacy is continued on by his children, Caleb (Susan) Davenport, Naomi (Tim) Ledford; his children in marriage, Vicky (Rick) Lawwill, Floyd “Jr.” (Erma) Strack, and Michael (Jasmine) Strack. His siblings, Mavis Engle and Arliss (Teresa) Davenport.
