Larry A. Hoppes

Larry A Hoppes passed away Thursday, September 17th in Fairfield Township, Ohio. Born in Connersville, Indiana on August 28, 1937, Larry was the son of Ross and Esther Dubois Hoppes and brother of Dale Hoppes, all of whom proceeded him in death.

Larry graduated from Short High School in Liberty, Indiana in 1955 and joined the US Air Force shortly thereafter. He was honorably discharged following an additional term in the Air Force Reserves. After fulfilling his service commitment, Larry was employed as a PBX Technician with GTE until his retirement. Larry continued his education after retirement by earning his certificate of massage therapy through the Cayce Reilly School of Massage in Virginia Beach, VA.

In 2000, Larry and his wife Barbara moved to Mars Hill, North Carolina. Together, they enjoyed 26 years of mountain vistas and good friends before returning to the Hamilton area in March of 2026 to be closer to family.

Larry loved the North Carolina mountains, feeding visiting birds, and occasionally spotting bears, foxes, and deer. During hockey season, he faithfully tuned in to cheer for his favorite team, the 2026 Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes.

Larry is survived by his wife, Barbara K. Hoppes; one son, Brett Hoppes; two stepdaughters, Amy (Dave) Kraushar and Lori (Ernie) Hawkins; seven grandchildren, Alexis, Nicole, Emily, David, Ethan, Meghan, Mitchell; and two great grandchildren, Calvin and Elizabeth.

There will be no services held at Larry’s request.
