Lewis E. Newkirk, age 78 of Hamilton passed away at Ft. Hamilton Hospital on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 12:20 PM. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on March 14, 1932 the son of Merle and Margaret (Newman) Newkirk. Lewis was employed as a machinist for Magna Machine Company for 45 years, retiring in 2010. On September 16, 1950 in Anderson, Indiana he married Cora A. Porter, and she preceded him in death in 2005.
He is survived by three daughters, Lana Terry of Hamilton, Melody (Ron) Tipler of Fairfield, and Joy (Chris) Lunsford of Oxford; two brothers, Walter (Shirley) Newkirk and Gail (On) Newkirk, both of Hamilton; a sister, Geraldine (John) Kelly of Kentucky; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Lewis E. Newkirk Jr.; two brothers, Bill and Larry Newkirk; two sisters, Mildred and Ella Mae; and two great-granddaughters.
Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 330 Pershing Avenue, on Monday, March 7, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Butler County Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Huntington Court and Fort Hamilton Hospital for all their care and support.
