Lillian Gail Phelps, age 76 of Oxford, passed away early in the morning on Saturday, June 20, 2026. Gail Campbell was born in Hamilton, Ohio on December 25, 1949, the daughter of Carl and Marie Tepker. Gail attended Collinsville Elementary, Stewart Junior High, Wilson Junior High and graduated from Taft High School in 1968. She attended Ohio State University. On November 21, 1970, she married the love of her life, Bill Phelps. After living in Morehead, KY, Huntington, WV, they settled in Hamilton, OH where they raised their three children. Gail was the Director of the Fitton YMCA Preschool and Child Latchkey Program. During this time, she impacted a number of students and formed lifelong friendships. Gail loved traveling to the beach, playing cards and dominos with friends and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Gail is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bill Phelps; her children, Molly (Jason) Merz, Katie (Tim) Bray and Bernie Phelps; her grandchildren, Chloe and Will Bray and Mason and Max Merz; her great-granddaughter, Adelie Gail Bray; her brother-in-law, Michael Phelps; and many nieces and nephews. Gail was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Marie Tepker; Fred Campbell; her brother, Don Campbell; her sister, Barb Campbell; and her in-laws, Bernie and Peg Phelps.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, Hamilton, Ohio. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at 12:00 PM with celebrant Fr. Jeff Silver. Burial will follow at Darrtown Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Hamilton Junior Women’s League and Auxillary Scholarship Fund. Please send to the Hamilton Community Foundation, 319 N. 3rd Street, Hamilton, Ohio 45011.
