Lois Young, age 73 of Hamilton passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 10, 2014 after battling cancer for nearly three years. She was born in Viper, Kentucky to Irvin and Louise (Terry) Caudill. Lois is survived by her husband of 55 years, John Young; her children, Patty (Dennis) Mays of Hamilton, John II (Irene) of Iron Mountain, Michigan, Mark of Fairfield, and Richard (Cynthia) of Fort Mill, South Carolina; ten grandchildren, John III, Jeremy, Melissa Taylor, Ashley, Samantha, Thomas, Christina, Dylan, Blake, and Catherine; and six great-grandchildren, Rival, Jonas, Hayden and Addyson Taylor, Rylee Gourdreau and Brooke Rose; her sister Bettie Jefferys of Ft. Lou, Bettie, Cleatis (Tony) and Ida shared a loving, warm relationship with their sister. Mark Doty and Theresa Nevin held special places in her heart.
Lois was known for her hospitality; she and her husband took in fourteen people to assist them in times of need. She was also known to be a wonderful cook, which led to a spotlight article in the Hamilton Journal News. Her culinary skills were obvious to all, whether they visited the farm or ate in Millville Restaurant, which she and her husband owned and operated.
Mrs. Young loved living on the peaceful farm that she and her husband shared. She canned and froze garden vegetables and fruit, baked delicious food, enjoyed playing games and cards, especially Yahtzee and Scrabble, completing her crossword puzzles and word jumbles, hunting wild mushrooms and four-leaf clovers, camping, and traveling. Nothing in the world delighted her more than seeing her family.
Visitation will be held at the Brown-Dawson-Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Sunday, April 13, 2014 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 10:00 AM with Rev. Mark Evans of Faith Christian Fellowship in Mason officiating. Burial will follow in Millville Cemetery.
