Lyman "Tootie" Wooten

April 14, 1938 — September 20, 2011

Lyman "Tootie" Wooten age 73 of Oxford passed away in his residence on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at 6:15PM. He was born in Trenton, Ohio, the son of William and Martha (Baker) Wooten. Lyman was a Veteran of the Vietnam War from 1962 to 1964 with the United States Army; was a member of the University Church of Christ; Monkey Mutual Aide #1; Amvets Post #1983; VFW Post #7670; Moose Lodge #36 and the Eagles Lodge #3680 and was employed as a driver for Jurgensen Trucking Company for sixteen years retiring in 1990. On February 20, 1993 in Oxford, he was married to Charlene (Hoel) Cottingim.

He is survived by his wife, Charlene Wooten of Oxford; one son, Kenneth (Lisa) Wooten of Hamilton; four daughters, Pamela Jo (Donzer) Miller of Fairfield; Paulette (Marty) Bray of Fairfield; September Wooten of Moorehead, Kentucky and Janice (Jason) Sain of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, James Wooten of Reily and Walter Wooten of Ventura, California; one sister, Pauline Seibel of Oxford and eleven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Tim Cottingim in 1992; one brother, Wilmer Wooten and five sisters, Ann Wooten, Gertrude Wooten, Helen Miller, Betty Steurer and Edna Davis.

Funeral services will be held at the Brown-Dawson-Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Ave. on Monday, September 26, 2011 at 10AM with Pastor Mark Taylor of the University Church of Christ and Pastor Dan Walters of the Tri-County Nazarene Church officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 2PM to 5PM. Tootie was an avid Miami University Football Fan and received numerous recognitions from the Miami University Football Program. The family wishes to thank all his best friends from the Equipment Room of Miami University; especially Darrell Hallburg, Chad Burns and the students from the Football Equipment Room Staff, Coaches and the football players. He especially enjoyed their visits during his illiness. Family wishes to extend their heartfelt thank you to the football staff and players of Miami University for all their help and loving support. A special thanks to all his extended family members and Staff of Hospice of Cincinnati for their loving care and concern. In lieu of flowers and for those interested, the family has asked that contributions be made to the Lyman "Tootie" Wooten Memorial Fund for Athletic Equipment Services. Checks can be made payable to Miami University, including the name of the fund in the memo portion, and sent to Miami University, 725 E. Chestnut St, Oxford, Ohio 45056.
