Margaret Jane (Retherford) Langdon moved to Heaven (no packing required) on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 after a courageous 12-year battle with cancer.
Born in Summitville, Ind., on August 1, 1941, to Melvin and Lola (Davidson) Retherford, Margaret was the youngest of 5 children. She grew up on the family dairy and livestock farm and graduated from Summitville High School in 1959.
Margaret married David W. Langdon (Hartford City) on August 27, 1961, and started their family on a farm in Blackford County, Indiana, raising crops and some 4,000 chickens and rearing daughters Ann Margaret (born 1962) and Sherry Jo (born 1963). Last month the couple celebrated 56 years together.
In 1970, they moved to Hamilton, Ohio, and made it home for 47 years, attending First Church of God in Hamilton (at Pleasant and Woodlawn) and other local churches throughout the years, nurturing their growing family and embracing their community.
Margaret will be remembered for so many things, from her beautiful smile and quick humor to her compassion and generosity, hospitality, loyalty to friends and pride in her family (especially those grandchildren!). She loved working outside, mowing lawns and working in her garden—neighbors and friends were the annual beneficiaries of her abundance of tomatoes and cucumbers. She faithfully followed politics, FOX News and football (Bengals first and then Colts), but during baseball season it was all-things Cincinnati Reds! She was a fan for 45 years, solidified during the ’75-’76 back-to-back World Series wins, and it is alleged that when the Reds won again in 1990, her screams could be heard from 2 blocks away.
She made the best of "regular" life, but Margaret’s true passion was God. She was enthralled with Heaven and excited about the ways our Father would bring the realm of Heaven into the earth—from gold and "diamond dust" to gemstones, oil and angels—she loved hearing about and experiencing Jesus, Holy Spirit and the supernatural Glory and Goodness of God. As much as we will miss her, we know she is fully rejuvenated, endlessly fascinated… and abundantly Home.
Margaret was preceded to Glory by her parents, and her eldest brother, Dwayne Retherford. Her family still here on earth without her, for now, includes: David Langdon (husband); Ann Langdon (daughter) and Samuel (grandson); Sherry (and Stephen) Mollick (daughter), and Hannah (granddaughter); and her siblings, Becky Williams, Alan (and Shirley) Retherford and Howard (and Bonnie) Retherford; as well as a whole bunch of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, classmates and friends.
Margaret was an organ donor. In passing she has given the gift of sight to at least two people.
