Marie Barrett, age 96 of Somerville, passed away Thursday November 20 with her family by her side. She was born on February 15, 1929, in Kingston, Kentucky, the daughter of Charlie Smith and Margaret (White) Smith. She met her husband Lloyd Barrett in 1951, and they were married shortly after on October 13, 1951. Lloyd proceeded her in death on October 13, 2000, after 49 years of marriage.
Marie worked as a stenographer for Ohio Casualty for many years before quitting to stay home with their children and later worked in the office of her husband’s company, Barrett Plumbing. Marie loved crocheting and gardening, but most of all, she loved the Lord, her family, and her church, Somerville Pentecostal Church, which she regularly attended for more than 40 years.
She is survived by her children, Martin (Karen) Barrett and Maribeth (Brian) Rawlins, and by her beloved grandsons Andrew (Tori) Barrett, Evan Rawlins, Grant (Jessalyn) Rawlins, granddaughter Rihanna (Adam) Hunter, and one great grandson Hudson Barrett. She is also survived by her sister Elizabeth (the late Corbin) Turner.
In addition to her parents and husband, Marie was also proceeded in death by her son Kevin Barrett, her brothers Henry (the late Ginger) Smith, Ernie (the late Lena) Smith, Tommy (Barbara) Smith, James Smith, and her sister Oma Smith.
Visitation will be Wednesday November 26, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 PM at the Brown-Dawson-Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Ave., Hamilton, with Mike Amburgy officiating. Burial will follow at the Butler County Memorial Park.
