Marion Nicholas Couch “Nick” (1944 – 2025)

Nick was a man of many talents in a variety of areas from construction of every sort, to playing music and singing or even making chili. Throughout his life he was willing to share his talents to be a help to family and friends from building to remodeling, from playing guitar and singing or from cooking to eating. Whatever the situation was, Nick was there to lend a helping hand.

Marion Nicholas Couch, 81 years of age, of Decatur, Tennessee, took his flight to be with his Lord on 06/16/2025 while surrounded by his family.

Nick was born in Hamilton, Ohio on 02/14/1944 to Joseph Couch Jr. and Frankie Louise Lawson-Couch. His family enjoyed hearing the memories from his early years, both good and bad since that is what makes up an individual’s life. To hear about his early life was always interesting. He had to switch schools regularly because of either fighting, getting in trouble, or when he knocked his principal out of a swivel chair. Birthday memories were interesting to hear as well, such as, for his 17th birthday, he was given a one-way bus ticket to enlist in the military as a present. Nick joined the United States Navy and served on the USS Essex. He served his country proudly and shared many memories of his service with his family, from good memories of places traveling around the world and sights seen to the bad memories of being put in the brig for going AWOL. While in the military he went in search of finding and reconnecting with his dad, which did take place, and they had a wonderful relationship thereafter.

On June 21st, 1966, Nick met the love of his life, Mabel. They dated for 4 months and 1 day and then they were united in marriage on October 22nd, 1966. On June 21st, after meeting Mabel, Nick went to his mother’s house and told her that he would marry that young lady. Shortly thereafter, Nick asked Mabel to marry him and then one day in September, he gave her three dates for a wedding and said pick one or forget it. They built their life and family together having two children, then became grandparents, then great grandparents and then great great grandparents.

Children:

Retha (Jeff) Bullock of Mason, Ohio / Kevin (Jessica) Couch of Decatur, Tennessee

Grandchildren:

Desiree (Nick) Privett of Cincinnati, Ohio / Logan (Mirally) Privett of Clarksville, Tennessee / Hunter (Alexis) Couch of Decatur, Tennessee / Hannah “Bray” (Kai) Couch of Richmond, Indiana

Great Grandchildren:

Hailey Roy / Aston Privett / Lillian “Lilly” Privett / Jack Seitzer

Great Great Grandchildren:

Leilani Roy / Everly Nichols

Nick was definitely a jack of all trades and held jobs that matched. From making parts for aircrafts, to plating different metals. From working in a foundry to working at a nuclear plant. From being a supervisor at Mosler Safe Co. to working for School districts and for Miami University in Oxford. But his favorite work of all was construction, from rough framing to finish work.

After moving to Tennessee in 2020, Nick joined Grace Baptist Church in Decatur. He loved his church family and loved his pastor, Bro. Joe Andrews.

Nick’s hobbies included playing music, singing, hunting, fishing, movie collecting, coin collecting and watching Walker Texas Ranger. He loved to share with family and friends his time in martial arts and being able to work out and train in person with Chuck Norris.

Those that knew Nick in his wilder days would say to him “Mabel sure straightened you out” to which he always replied, “the good Lord straightened me out.” He loved to tell people about the Lord.

Nick will always be remembered for his loyalty and love for his family, his desire to help others and for his positive outlook on things. We’ll always imagine hearing him say “it’s all good and if it ain’t, it oughta be” one more time. We couldn’t have asked for a better Husband / Dad / Grandpa or as some grandchildren, most great grandchildren and all great great grandchildren have referred to him as “Pops” and we will miss him every day. Nick’s memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.

Nick was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his loving wife, children and all the grandchildren collectively.
